Susan Wick: Wild Women Never Get the Blues
October 1 – January 3, 2016 @ BMoCA

Susan Wick: Wild Women Never Get the Blues presents an exploration of the artistic life and practice of Susan Wick. Surveying 50 years of artistic production, the exhibition is an invitation into Wick’s world—where everyday life and objects become art.

In the first gallery, we find ourselves in an immersive, domestic installation reflecting Wick’s home, studio, and life. For Wick, all material has artistic potential, and she engages all creative forms, including painting, drawing, textile, collage, ceramics, artist books, and anything her imagination will conceive. In her work, a bag becomes a canvas, an antique doll a sculpture, yarn a portrait, and lace the background for a drawing. Moving through mediums and moments of Wick’s life, the exhibition does not follow a linear path, but instead follows trails of curiosity like her artistic process. Always in constant motion, her life is a performance, and her greatest medium is her energy. Her work is lively and bright, filled with joy and beauty. The scale of her works is both intimate and large, layered in form and meaning, it coaxes our desire to get near, to touch, and to see more.

Lending us her rose-colored glasses, the exhibition gives glimpses into Wick’s fearless, elegant, and extraordinary view of the world. This is the great adventure of Susan Wick, where nothing is ordinary and everything ordinary can be art.
