What makes a museum? For the CU Art Museum, an important pillar of the institution is its collection of over 8,000 objects spanning human history. Each photograph in Close Looking: Details From Our Collection is a highly magnified detail of an object in the CU Art Museum collection; each one selected by a different member of the museum’s staff. These objects—from small ancient coins to large contemporary paintings—inspire the staff members, and the personal connections they make with them inform how they look at the collection as a whole.
This project illustrates the CU Art Museum’s desire to promote new ways of looking at its collection. Interested in seeing more? Visit the museum, located at the Visual Arts Complex, to make your own personal connections. We’re opening three new exhibitions featuring objects from our collection on February 12, 2016.
