Natural Dye Workshop with Maki Teshima
Saturday July 8 – 11:00am-1:30pm
Learn how to create your own natural dyes using sustainably sourced food scraps, and dye a silk scarf and tote bag to take home. This hands-on immersion dye workshop will be led by Maki Teshima of Tomorrow Is Always New studio. All materials provided.
About the Instructor:
Maki Teshima is a botanical dye fiber artist and owner of Tomorrow Is Always New studio. Born and raised in Japan, Teshima moved to the U.S. to pursue her dream of becoming an artist. She studied botanical drawing, painting and printmaking at Corcoran College of Art in Washington, D.C. She learned natural dyeing techniques at the Fashion Institute of Technology, the Textile Art Center, and private studios in Kyoto, Japan, and worked as a textile surface designer in New York City for 15 years before moving to Denver. She actively organizes natural dyeing workshops and teaches at various places such as Denver Art Museum, Denver Botanic Gardens.
