Virtual SPARK! Program

Friday May 14 – 2:00-3:00pm

Join us for a virtual tour, discussion, and art activity on Zoom about the exhibition .

Exhibiting Artist Frank Sampson, a prolific artist now in his nineties, began teaching at the University of Colorado Boulder in 1961 and retired as a professor emeritus of fine arts in 1990. His surreal, dreamlike, and fantastical paintings are multilayered and include all animal, human, and shapeshifting creatures. BMoCA Educator Gabi Scott will lead you on a virtual tour of Sampson’s paintings, and you’ll hear more details on Sampson and his art from the exhibition’s Guest Curator, Tom Carter. An art activity inspired by Sampson’s work that you can do from the comfort of your own home will also be demonstrated during this virtual event.

Suggested art materials to have available for the art project:

  • Paper – water color paper, mixed media paper, or other thicker drawing paper in a lighter color
  • Tea or Coffee (or both) – these will serve as your paint for this project
  • Small soft paintbrush
  • A few toothpicks
  • 1 pencil
  • 1 paper towel
  • 1 small cup of water

Please indicate if you need any special accommodations for hearing or visual impairments on your registration form.
