Virtual Studio Tour: Gabriel Sanchez

Thursday May 21 – noon-noon

Gabriel Sanchez is a 27-year-old realist painter working primarily with oils. The son of Cuban parents, he was born in the United States. Sanchez graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in Drawing and Painting in 2018. He works with galleries in Los Angeles and New York. In March 2019, Sanchez had his first solo exhibition at the Lora Schlesinger Gallery, in Santa Monica, California. This year he plans to present paintings at Art Expo Chicago, and a portrait group show in New York. Sanchez currently lives in Boulder, Colorado and resides part of the year in Havana, where he lives with his family.

Sanchez writes:
“My paintings represent still moments and situations in life that we may overlook. The figures that I paint are easily accessible and focus primarily on the individual. Getting rid of all distractions the audience can focus on the human. My current series of works are a dialogue with Cuban culture. Each painting is a simplistic scene in a complicated and confusing urban environment. The themes of my work focus mainly on isolation and closeness to others. I work primarily with oils on canvas.”
