Melissa Pickering is a printmaker focusing primarily in abstract nature, political, and historical messages using various printmaking techniques, specifically intaglio collagraph, relief, and chine-collé. Pickering is interested in combining verbal and non-verbal elements, in pursuit of a deeper understanding of the relationship between the inner world and the external world in which we all live. Her recent work combines social justice and political activism with a desire to dig deep into current issues in order to take informed action for positive change.
Pickering is based in Boulder, CO and received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Masters of Arts in Business from Naropa University. She has been practicing printmaking since 2008, and has been studying with master printmaker Mark Lunning of Open Press Studios since 2015 as well as with other instructors in Denver, New Mexico, and New York.
Pickering started showing her art just in recent years and has gained momentum, showing at places such as the Aka Gallery and University of Colorado at Boulder, and the Edge Gallery and with the Big Picture group in Denver. She was also selected to be in this year’s 5280 Regional Juried Printmaking Exhibition at the Arvada Center for the Arts. She is also an artist in residence with the Boulder Creative Collective.
