Virtual Studio Tour: Yvens 'Alex' Saintil

Thursday February 25 – noon-noon

Yvens ‘Alex’ Saintil was born in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti and raised in Queens, NY. He is a multi-disciplinary artist and currently resides in Denver, where he is a student at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Prior to relocating to Colorado, Saintil served 10 years in the United States Army as an Infantryman, performing in a variety of roles within the continental United States, South Korea, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Amongst the many medals earned for his service, Saintil is also a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Saintil is an outspoken advocate for police reform and accountability, veteran mental-health care, and social activism. His work has been exhibited as part of the Colorado Photographic Arts Center, The Subjective Lens – Through The Eyes of Veterans; Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Black in Denver by Narkita Gold; The Center for Visual Arts, Deeper Than Skin; and the upcoming show at the Lone Tree Arts Center, Into The Rearview Mirror: A Look Back At 2020. Saintil is currently exploring the intersections of his conscious and unconscious realities using 35mm film photography and mixed media, layering and hybridizing images and materials on canvases, giving audiences a window into his mind.
