Young Artists at Work: Summer Art Camps

June 1 - August 7, 2015

Summer art camps created by artists that encourage personal expression, fine art techniques, and material exploration in a museum setting for youth ages 5-12. Weeklong full and half-day workshops available.

Wild and Wonderful World
Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Explore the natural world in paint, inspired by everything from elephants to egrets, columbine to caribou. Drawing inspiration from the caves of Lascaux, Paul Klee’s glowing fish, and Rousseau’s layered landscapes, we will build our own brushes, mix our own pigments, and explore many wonderful painting techniques. To register, click here.

The Paint and the Possible
A bird’s eye view of a faraway land, a treasure to hold in the palm of your hand. From handmade brushes to inventive surfaces, paint all things far and wide, big and small, drawing inspiration from the work of contemporary painters, and the color- filled world of all that is possible. June 22-26: SCULPTURE

Home Sweet Home
A house for a mouse, a house in the trees, a house made of paper, a house on the seas… Drawing inspiration from contemporary architecture and dwellings around the world, design and combine cardboard, paper, fabric, found objects and more. A fantastic fort, a roof made of thatch, a swing from the treetops, what ideas we’ll hatch! To register, click here.

Things with Wings
Inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci’s flying machines, soaring sparrows, and your own vivid imagination, explore many ways of creating form, from armatures of wire and reed, to sculpting with paper pulp. A horse with wings, a great plane in the sky, with your fine feathered friends, your ideas will fly. To register, click here.

Installation Impermanence
Create your own sand mandala, much like those made by Tibetan monks, as part of a “quilt” installation of mandalas on the floor of the museum. Explore topics of meditation and intention, symmetry, and mineral pigments. At the end of the week, take part in a ceremony to wipe away our mandalas, collecting some to distribute as blessings, and dispersing the rest in Boulder Creek, which will carry our blessings around the world. To register, click here.

Power in Numbers
Create a giant ant colony using the powers of math and biology! Learn how math intersects with art, and how great things are possible when you work together! To register, click here.

Summer Sketch: Monet to Matisse
Travel back in time to create art inspired by great artists of history, with this figure drawing fine art summer camp. You’ll be ready to join the Master’s by the end of the week! To register, click here.

Cartoon Camp
Join Mighty Fudge Studios to create cartoons to be animated and debuted in a special screening! To register, click here.
