Bon Bon: Kristen Hatgi Sink and Jillian FitzMaurice
March 24 – April 5, 2015 @ Present Box
For their Present Box exhibition, Kristen Hatgi Sink and Jillian FitzMaurice will fill BMoCA’s lobby and front entrance with giant white glitter-filled balloons and a specially-commissioned video installation that will transform the space into a stage set for two live performances. The new video work flickers between images of broken butterfly wings, mounds of flowers, and sweet treats, and teeters between whimsical fantasy and deleterious consumption. Watching, we move through emotions reminiscent of a sugar high: indulging in the initial rush and then succumbing to the empty stillness as we come down, like a giant balloon of glitter pierced by an arrow.
Kristen Hatgi Sink’s exploration into video installation is an extension of her photographic practice that is planned in coordination with Month of Photography 2015. While Hatgi Sink and Jillian FitzMaurice have worked together for years, Bon Bon is the first collaborative project for the two Denver-based artists.
