Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) and artist Hannah Leathers present Joy Portals, four site specific installations throughout three Lakewood libraries and at Ovation West, a performing arts center. The playful, graphic stylization in Hannah’s oversized font lend a whimsical and welcoming addition to spaces the artist attributes to bringing joy through the services and public offerings they provide to their respective communities.

“Access to joy feels to me like both a practice and a serendipity. Like there are fleeting moments when it becomes available. The moment is right, the day is right, the brain chemicals are right – and my joy instigators cross paths, or take root. And it takes practice to grab hold of them.”

About the Artist
Leathers has a BFA in Studio Art and a MaEd in Art Education from the University of Georgia. After graduating, she sustained and grew her art practice while working in arts administration roles supporting intersections of art, social justice, and sport. Leathers art experiences include curatorial endeavors, activation of non-traditional art projects in the non-profit sector and for public arts programs, and full time tattooing. Currently, Leathers works for Denver’s Public Art Program.

Our Community Partners
The Joy Portals exhibitions and associated programs are part of a collaboration between Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) and Jefferson County Public Libraries (JCPL). Through this initiative, BMoCA presents free, museum-quality exhibitions by regional artists at JCPL branches and complementary programs at the libraries and neighboring schools. The collaboration works to expand accessible educational and cultural opportunities for Jefferson County residents of all ages and backgrounds.

Thank you to our generous sponsors: The BMoCA and JCPL collaboration is funded in part by the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District, the Kemper Family Foundations, UMB Bank, n.a., Trustee, the Sachs Family Foundation, and Robin and Kevin Luff.
