Hand-draw a unique symbol that represents you as an individual, upload it into graphic design software and recreate it in vinyl with help from the artist. Your vinyl symbol will be printed and added to the mural. This is the first workshop in a two-part series. Appropriate for teens and adults. Space is limited; registration required.

About the artist
Cherish Marquez is a queer Latina and interdisciplinary artist with a focus on digital media. She combines the digital world with the physical world, often including handmade objects that act as interfaces to control the worlds she fabricates. Her work acts as the mediation between digital and physical spaces.

About the project
This mural will display an interactive collection of symbols that explore identity and symbology while showing how augmented reality (AR) can help us generate deeper understandings of each other. Composed of meaningful symbols created by individuals, this collective mural will be a mosaic of icons that represent the community. Visitors will be able to scan the mural with the camera in their cell phones to learn the meaning behind each symbol, creating a link between the individual and the community while celebrating the unique cultural landscape of Anythink Huron Street.

The BMoCA and Anythink Libraries collaboration is funded in part by the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District and the Kemper Family Foundations, UMB Bank, n.a., Trustee.
