Growing up in Cleveland, OH, John “RUMTUM” Hastings spent time on the shores of Lake Erie where he developed a close relationship with the balance of human, animal, and plant life. This led to his love for aquatic nature, marine life, and the vast landscapes they create. His works feature the natural geometric patterns in tropical plants and deep sea atmospheres as well as new creatures and whimsical scenes that transport you to a playful oasis. Juxtaposing the ideas of escapism and reality, Hastings continually seeks to expand his understanding of vegetation and the elements of landscapes.
Hastings received a BFA from Columbus School of Art and Design. His work in Denver has primarily focused on printmaking and murals. He has murals in Denver at Mission Ballroom and The Oriental Theatre and in Boulder at the Rayback Collective. Hastings’ creative endeavor RUMTUM Creations showcases his most recent works of art.
